Every Thursday, our community pantry gets a delivery from Fareshare Southern central warehouse based in Totton. This delivery helps the pantry keep well stocked in a variety of food stuffs, fresh, frozen and ambient. The drivers are all volunteers giving up their time. When Lara our Unit manager was invited for a tour, she jumped at the chance to visit and see how they operate the warehouse. Its made up of a team of staff and an army of volunteers who help sort the food as it comes in. More volunteers pack the boxes that are sent to organisations such as ours.
The Fridge and freezer sections are enormous, and staff are using forklifts to move items about for storage. On the day Lara visited, there was a huge influx of giant swedes which are not ‘small enough’ for the supermarkets and pallets and pallets of Lucozade
